the work myth

“We should do away with the absolutely specious notion that everybody has to earn a living. It is a fact today that one in ten thousand of us can make a technological breakthrough capable of supporting all the rest. The youth of today are absolutely right in recognizing this nonsense of earning a living. We keep inventing jobs because of this false idea that everybody has to be employed at some kind of drudgery because, according to Malthusian Darwinian theory he must justify his right to exist. So we have inspectors of inspectors and people making instruments for inspectors to inspect inspectors. The true business of people should be to go back to school and think about whatever it was they were thinking about before somebody came along and told them they had to earn a living.”

— Richard Buckminster Fuller

this is from a book by bucky  called “critical path” and he explains exactly how we can all live fulfilling lives without the drudgery of “9 to 5.” problem is, we live in a society manipulated by the corporate/state/media entity which creates a consensus reality that’s entirely arbitrary. in this arbitrary consensus reality everyone believes we all have to work to perpetuate our consumerist society. this benefits such a *very* few people. psychedelics were so dangerous because they showed that consensus reality really IS arbitrary and other realities are entirely possible. can’t have that! shut up! i can’t hear the TV!!

the death of expertise

It’s been quite a few years since isaac asimov wrote “the relativity of wrong.”  the problem he described then has not improved but rather gotten so much worse in the ensuing years… opinions are NOT created equal !!!  it is not the definition of democracy that your opinion is just as good as anyone else’s. some folks’ opinions are more informed than others’ … and let’s be honest: some people are just plain smarter. following is a wonderful essay by “an expert” which will unfortunately never be read by those most in need of its message :(

NSA diverted computers and laptops from shipping facilities to install spyware

Der Spiegel reported on Sunday that the NSA’s “Tailored Access Operations” (TAO) has been diverting desktops and laptops shipped to U.S. consumers and installing spyware on them.”

will a federal judge find THIS constitutional?  the constitutional republic left to us by the founders is gone–stolen by lying leaders who have subverted the constitution and a complicit corporate media which has sold the program to the compliant american public. i will weep no more for those citizens who have allowed their country to be taken from them because of their willful ignorance or their unwillingness to inform themselves or to think critically, or to resist the media manipulation and the corrosive influence of concentrated wealth. the corporate state has won – protected by the police state – and the specter that remains of our once great america deserves the fate which awaits it. as thoreau observed from his jail cell, and viktor frankl also noted in his book about his experiences as a prisoner in the WWII death camps (“man’s search for meaning”), no one can take away our personal freedom and right to choose our own responses. i do understand, though, why socrates drank the hemlock and lao tzu left society to become a hermit…
